In the USA, it is National Breastfeeding (Bodyfeeding) Month and every week in August is dedicated to World Breastfeeding Week, Indigenous Milk Medicine Week, Asian American Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Week, Black Breastfeeding Week.

August is all about lactation! August 1-7 is World Breastfeeding* Week, August 8th - 14th is Native Breastfeeding Week, August 25th - 31st is Black Breastfeeding Week and in the USA, the entire month recognized as National Breastfeeding Month. Today’s research review summarizes a study that examined nursing and the passage of COVID-19 antibodies from parents who received a COVI-19 vaccination after birth and during bodyfeeding.

To close out National Breastfeeding Month in the United States, it is only appropriate to have August's Brilliant Activities for Birth Educators be focused on an activity focused on breast/chestfeeding. Additionally, since many people are still needing to conduct virtual classes due to COVID-19 risks in their communities, I decided to offer up something that can be done either virtually or in person, depending on your own circumstances. As National Breast/Chestfeeding Month continues in the United States, there is a very positive update to the just released Healthy People 2030 goals. The Healthy People 2030 (HP2030) project "sets data-driven national objectives to improve health and well-being over the next decade" for residents of the United States and updates the 2020 goals. These newly released objectives include two lactation goals for new parent/baby dyads: Increase the number of infants who are exclusively breast/chestfed at 6 months and increase the number of infants who are nursing at 12 months.

In the United States, August is National Breastfeeding Month. World Breastfeeding Week takes place the first week of August. We are in the middle of Black Breastfeeding Week now. It seems only fitting that the August Brilliant Activities for Birth Educators post describes a fun and engaging breastfeeding/chestfeeding class activity.
