August 1-7 marks the annual World Breastfeeding Week for 2016. This year, the theme focuses on how breastfeeding is a key part of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), established in 2015. The Sustainable Development Goals were created by the world's leaders, and are comprised on 17 goals that aim to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity. Breastfeeding is a vital component of these goals, as it promotes wellbeing from the beginning of life, and plays significant role in environmental responsibility and sustainable development. You can learn more about World Breastfeeding Week 2016, including the four objectives and the many links between each SDG and breastfeeding, at worldbreastfeedingweek.org.
At Lamaze, we encourage, promote, and support breastfeeding in a number of ways. In addition to encouraging breastfeeding through teaching in our childbirth classes, we provide a number of free resources on our website. Check out some of the more popular resources and share them with your online community -- breastfeeding is a time that needs support from everyone, so your share could make a big difference for a mom or dad who is struggling!
Additionally, Lamaze offers a budget-friendly online course for breastfeeding called, Breastfeeding Basics: From Birth to Back to Work. Take the course on your own timeline, in the comfort of your home and learn critical information for a healthy breastfeeding relationship. Stay tuned to the blog throughout the month of August for more breastfeeding resources and information in recognition of World Breastfeeding Week and National Breastfeeding Month 2016.
