Six Perinatal Podcasts that Center Black and Brown Voices
By: Sharon Muza, BS, CD/BDT(DONA), LCCE, FACCE, CLE | 0 Comments
Podcasts are an increasingly popular source of information for birthing people and the perinatal professionals who support them in all sorts of capacities. Podcasts are a fun and efficient way to receive relevant information. Someone can listen to a podcast while exercising, driving or doing any number of other tasks. Enjoying a podcast is a simple and affordable way to expand one’s horizons, discover new interests and keep up on all that is happening in the world of pregnancy, birth and early parenting.
Podcasts hosted by Black and Brown perinatal professionals are able to speak to the experiences, circumstances and challenges faced by families of color who are welcoming babies into their lives. Black and Brown families are disproportionately impacted by higher maternal and neonatal mortality and morbidity rates. These adverse outcomes are a result of systemic racism, medical racism and a lack of health care providers who share the culture and identity of the people they are caring for.
Consider checking out these remarkable podcasts produced by and for Black and Brown people and sharing them with all the families you serve.
