The grief of losing a child during pregnancy or after birth runs deep and hard for the person who is or was pregnant. It is important to also recognize that the nonpregnant person also has experienced a loss & has to deal with their own grief, as well as supporting the emotions of their partner.

The sad fact is that too many families are affected by a pregnancy loss, stillbirth or early infant loss. The grief when a loss occurs has no bounds and remains significant and deep, even if there are future children that join the family after a loss has occurred.

A study published in May 2017 examined the impact of a childbirth education course based on mindfulness principles on the pain experienced during childbirth and the ability to handle that pain on a physiological level as well as adjust to the postpartum period.
