As childbirth educators, we are aware that even in a class of what we believe to be first-time expectant parents, there will likely be some class members who have experienced a loss of a previous pregnancy or even a stillbirth or infant loss after birth.

The sad fact is that too many families are affected by a pregnancy loss, stillbirth or early infant loss. The grief when a loss occurs has no bounds and remains significant and deep, even if there are future children that join the family after a loss has occurred.

In a new working paper, The Effect of an Increase in Lead in the Water System on Fertility and Birth Outcomes: The Case of Flint, Michigan, researchers explored the effects of drinking the Flint River water (with its increased levels of lead) on fertility and birth outcomes.
