Nutrition Tips All Month!

Cara Terreri

March is National Nutrition Month and all month long, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is sharing tips and resources for making it easier to improve your nutrition. Throughout the month, we'll share these tips along with matching resources from Lamaze and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics EatRight website.

Here is the first set of tips to get started:

  • Include healthful foods from all food groups

  • Hydrate healthfully

One word: water. Stay tuned for a forthcoming post on the blog about hydration!

  • Learn how to read Nutrition Facts Panels

Find all the information you'll need to better understand food labels

  • Avoid distractions while eating

When you eat while watching TV, reading, working, or scrolling on your phone, you aren't able to pay close attention to the sensations of food, including smell, taste, and fullness. Eating without the distraction of electronics allows you to be more mindful of your eating habits.

  • Take time to enjoy your food

Similar to the suggested tip above, taking your time to eat vs. scarfing down a sandwich, etc., lets you fully taste and enjoy your eating, which allows you to eat in a more mindful way. This can impact how much and what you consume in positive ways.
