Cervical Health Awareness Month

January is Cervical Health Awareness Month, and as one of the leading resources for healthy pregnancy and birth, we want to share with you important resources for cervical health. The National Cervical Cancer Coalition (NCCC), a division of the American Sexual Health Association, seeks to highlight issues related to cervical cancer, HPV (human papillomavirus) disease, and early detection of both.

HPV and cervical cancer can affect fertility, pregnancy, and birth. It's important to understand how it can affect your childbearing years, and wht you can do for prevention, treatment, and coping. For example, did you know that HPV does not usually impact your ability to get pregnant, but HPV can produce cancerous cells which can cause fertility issues? Also, babies born to mothers with HPV rarely contract the disease. Of course, the most important and simplest step you can take is to prevent the disease.

NCCC has created several easy-to-understand resources to help you educate yourself and open the conversation with your OB or midwife.
