I am 29 weeks pregnant, 5'4 and 131 pounds. I've gained approximately 6 pounds since the beginning of my pregnancy. I do not have a history of anemia. I took my glucose screen test 2 days ago and my sugar was 162. I am now being told to take the 3 hour test, which I plan to do. I was also told I am anemic. I take Solgar prenatals every day along with folate and fish oil with DHA and EPH (is that right?!). I feel wonderful and my uterus was measuring at 29 weeks when I went in for my 28 week appointment. My question is, if I take vitamins regulary, how can I be anemic? Is it an absorption problem? What is the possibiilty that I will have GD? Thanks. |

First, let me apologize for taking so long to get back to you. I was working on a project with a hard deadline, but it is now done. Anemia by definition is low iron level, so while most prenatal vitamins contain iron, none of the other supplements you are taking would help with that. You should consult with your midwife or dr about the anemia and what to do about it. I assume that by now, you have taken the 3-hr test for gestational diabetes. I hope that went well for you. ~ Henci |
