EPO and VBAC

Hi Henci. Do you know if there are any studies about the safety of evening primrose oil (both orally and vaginally) on those planning a VBAC? Can EPO increase the risk of uterine rupture? (fyi, the EPO would be used to break up scar tissue on her cervix. This scar tissue is what most likely caused her failure to dilate, leading to a cesarean, the first time around)
Thanks so much! Christa Bartley, RN, CD(DONA) |

I have never researched this, but I went over to the PubMed website and tried a few searches, and the only thing I came up with was this study. If you want to try your own searches, here is the home page for formulating searches. If you have never done this, PubMed has a link to a tutorial on how to construct searches in the sidebar on the left-hand side of the page. -- Henci |

From what I understand, EPO is to ripen the cervix. It does not cause contractions of the uterus and so would seem to be safe for that.
Here some dosage and other info. |
