Governance: Candidate Coordinators

Purpose  
Outlined below are the structure and primary responsibilities of the Candidate Coordinators for Lamaze International.

Structure  
The Lamaze International Program Directors Chair approves Candidate Coordinators. The Chair reports to the Education Council. Candidate Coordinators report to the Program Directors Chair.

Candidate Coordinators Chair
Responsibilities
The Chair of the Lamaze International Candidate Coordinators shall:

  • Maintain a contact list of coordinators for sharing concerns and solutions.
  • Oversee announcements to coordinators of new, local LCCE educators and members.
  • Reaffirm interest and commitment of coordinators to the position every three years.
  • Ensure recognition of coordinators at the Lamaze Annual Conference.

Qualifications

  • Current Lamaze member and LCCE educator.
  • Previous coordinator or experience with leadership and communications.

Term
The Chair is appointed for a three-year term by the Education Council and may be reappointed for additional terms.

Candidate Coordinators  
Responsibilities
Outlined below are the primary responsibilities of Candidate Coordinators. The coordinator shall:

  • Promote active participation in Lamaze International.
  • Promote membership in Lamaze International.
  • Attend the annual Candidate Coordinators meeting at the Lamaze Annual Conference. If unable to attend, designates an alternate.
  • Recruit, mentor and encourage new educators.
  • Facilitate birth and class observations for candidates.
  • Support student teaching and finding resources.
  • Promote membership and certification in their area.
  • Support and promote continuing education opportunities (Lamaze programs and seminars) in their area.
  • Encourage facilities and independent groups to seek recognition as Lamaze Approved Providers.
  • Post information on the listserv or Candidate Coordinator Web page for their area. 

Qualifications

  • Current Lamaze International member.
  • Current LCCE educator.
  • Able to attend or appoint an alternate to attend the Candidate Coordinators Meeting at the Lamaze Annual Conference.
  • Other related experience/leadership activities related to maternal/child health.

Term
Candidate coordinators are appointed for a three-year term and may be reappointed for additional terms. Individuals may apply for this appointed position.
