Purpose
Lamaze International has responsibility for the editorial content oversight for all Lamaze consumer publications published by iVillage/Lamaze Publishing Company. To discharge this responsibility, Lamaze International will appoint an Editorial Advisory Board to carry out publication in accordance with this policy.
Editorial Content
The editorial policy and content of all Lamaze consumer publications shall at all times reflect the image and reputation of Lamaze International and shall be consistent with the principles adopted by Lamaze International to accomplish its mission. All advertisements accepted for publication in Lamaze consumer publications must adhere to Lamaze International advertising standards.
Editorial Board Composition
The Editorial Advisory Board shall be comprised of the President, who shall serve as Chair of the Editorial Advisory Board and up to 16 additional members who are experts in the field of perinatal education. Each consumer publication will have an appointed Advisory Committee Chair and committee members assigned to review and advise on the content of that publication.
Appointments
The appointment and removal of the Editorial Advisory Board members is the responsibility of the Lamaze International President, and may be done in consultation with the Editorial Advisor. The Publisher shall be notified in advance of the decision to Advisory Board members, so that they may advise on the matter if deemed necessary.
The Board of Directors may also remove Editorial Advisory Board members, the Editorial Advisor or the Chair for due cause by a two-thirds majority vote of the Board. Causes for removal of the Chair or members shall include, but not be limited to, failure to fulfill the responsibilities and duties of the position.
Term
The terms of appointment for the Editorial Advisor and Editorial Board members will be in staggered appointments of one to three years with a term limit of six years. Renewal of appointment of the Editorial Advisor and the Publication Chairs for an additional term limit of six years is possible.
Editorial Advisory Board Members
Eligibility Criteria
The eligibility criteria for appointment shall include, but not be limited to, the following:

A broad, in-depth knowledge of the field of childbirth and perinatal education and its current trends and advances.
·
An understanding and appreciation for research pertinent to the field of childbirth and perinatal education.
·
Experience writing articles for publication, and ability to critically evaluate publications.
·
Ability to fulfill responsibilities of the Editorial Advisory Board on a voluntary basis.
·
Member of Lamaze International.
Responsibilities of Editorial Advisory Board Members
Members of the Editorial Advisory Board are directly accountable to the President of Lamaze International who serves as the Chair of the Lamaze Publishing Editorial Advisory Board, and additionally accountable to the Chair of the publication to which they are assigned.
The responsibilities of Editorial Board members are as follows:

Provide input on editorial needs and review articles/videos as requested.
·
Complete assigned reviews in a timely manner, offering constructive critique of articles to assist the author and Editor to achieve the best possible quality in the final publication.
·
Submit or recruit articles for review.
·
Attend the Editorial Advisory Board meeting that is held during the annual conference each year, or another designated time in the year.
·
Maintain confidentiality and objectivity with regard to consumer publications.
·
Participate in periodic evaluation of the quality and effectiveness of the Lamaze consumer publications to maintain high quality publications that reflect and promote the Lamaze philosophies of birth, breastfeeding and parenting.
Responsibilities of Publication Advisory Committee Chairs
The additional responsibilities of the appointed Publication Advisory Committee Chairs are as follows:

Serve as key contact for the specific publication with the Editor.
·
Coordinate with Publication Committee members regarding publication content.
·
Make review assignments with the Editor.
·
Provide feedback on content to the Editor.
·
Convene a Publication Committee meeting/conference call at least once a year.
Remuneration
Members of the Editorial Advisory Board and Publication Advisory Committee Chairs serve in a voluntary capacity and do not receive remuneration for their service. Travel assistance will be provided to attend the annual meeting of the Editorial Advisory Board in accordance with need and the funds budgeted for this purpose.
Editorial Advisor/ Lamaze.com Chair
Eligibility Criteria
The eligibility criteria for appointment shall include, but not be limited to, the following:

A member of Lamaze International for a minimum of two years.
·
A broad, in-depth knowledge of the field of childbirth and perinatal education and its current trends and advances.
·
An understanding and appreciation for research pertinent to the field of childbirth and perinatal education.
·
Vision for Lamaze consumer publications coincides with the vision of Lamaze International.
·
Experience in writing and reviewing professional articles for publication.
·
Previous or current service on an Editorial Board, preferred.
·
Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, and manage tasks associated with a consumer publication.
Remuneration
The Lamaze International has entered a licensing agreement for consumer publications with iVillage, which provides funds for an editorial fee for the Internet and Lamaze.com web site. The appointed Editorial Advisor/ Lamaze.com Committee Chair and shall be paid an annual editorial stipend, the amount to be determined by the Lamaze International Board of Directors. The editorial stipend includes an honorarium to the appointed Editorial Advisor/Lamaze.com Committee Chair and an allowance to defray the postage, telephone and clerical expenses associated with the responsibilities.
Responsibilities
The appointed Editorial Advisor/Lamaze.com Advisory Committee Chair is directly accountable to the Lamaze International Board of Directors. The Editorial Advisor is responsible for all aspects of the content for Lamaze.com and provides oversight on all Lamaze consumer publications, serving an advisor to the Chair of the Editorial Advisory Board and as the liaison with the Editor.
These specific responsibilities include:

Oversee Lamaze consumer publications and
Lamaze.com content for consistency with the Lamaze mission and philosophy.
·
Assist in developing content for the web site and recommend appropriate authors/experts to contribute articles.
·
Coordinate with other
Lamaze.com Advisory Committee members regarding web site content.
·
Review features and articles for publication on
Lamaze.com.
·
Review web site on a regular basis to ensure content and advertising are consistent with Lamaze philosophy and established standards.
·
Review and evaluate contribution of content experts engaged to provide responses to web site visitors.
·
Review articles submitted to the publisher, and determine placement and order of articles.
·
Prepare reports for the Lamaze International Board of Directors as requested, and necessary correspondence related to
Lamaze.com.
·
Participate and provide leadership at the Lamaze Publishing Editoral Advisory meeting to be held at least once a year.
·
Promote
Lamaze.com whenever possible.
·
Serve as the liaison to the Editor and as an advisor to the Chair of the Editorial Advisory Board for overall publications planning and related appointments.
·
Advise on Lamaze advertising standards policy.
