Thanks for this excellent article! More importantly, I'm delighted to see it on a site other than those preaching to the choir. With all the new books such as Pushed and Born in the USA, documentaries such as The Business of Being Born, productions of Birth: The Play, and articles such as yours both in the print media and online, I keep hoping we'll reach the point where childbearing women stand up for themselves and say they aren't going to take this anymore. For the sake of our health and the health of our babies, both physical and mental, may that day come soon.

Hi ,I am a neonatologist with 12 year expirience of  TRYING to treat worst neonatal cases from a district . Apart from treting , I strted taking detailed History .I was stunned to find out that majority of our sick babies came to us because of UNNESSESARY ,POTENTIALLY HARMFUL interventions rather than lack of care .
