Lamaze Certification Modules

The Lamaze Certification Modules were created to offer an online alternative for experienced educators to learn and understand the Lamaze approach to childbirth education and in circumstances when attending a live seminar is not a viable option. The optimal professional learning experience for aspiring new Lamaze educators is through in-person learning at a Lamaze Childbirth Educator seminar.

Lamaze Philosophy

CORE VALUES FOR TEACHING SAFE AND HEALTHY BIRTH:

The Lamaze Philosophy of Birth is based on evidence and the idea that birth is a natural part of life. By educating parents, you are helping them understand, respect and trust the natural processes of pregnancy and childbirth, leading to better outcomes for everyone. This module will define the Lamaze philosophy of birth and the ways in which you can empower women to make informed choices in maternity care.

Participants will be able to: 

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the extensive ways in which birth choices have the potential to impact self-identity.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the factors that have most influenced birth practices in the US.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the factors that contribute to the selection of a caregiver and environment for birth.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the influences that can affect the quality of classes.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of birth physiology.
  • Describe the maternal attributes associated with positive birth memories.
  • Identify the ways in which the body naturally deals with the pain of labor.
  • Outline the thought processes as labor progresses.
