Hello

Hi Everyone,

My name is Brian and I'm representing my wife Heather who is at home with our newborn son Henry. Her membranes ruptured prematurely and since the baby was breech she had a c-section.

We wish we would have heard about Lamaze earlier, but alas, our doctor didn't recommend it.

See you around the forums.

Brian and Heather

Introducing myself

Hi, everyone. My name is Jenni. I'm 30 years old and I live in Baltimore, MD. I don't have kids (yet), but I became interested in birth several years ago while reading Our Bodies, Ourselves.

I have a BA in Psychology and I'm currently in the process of earning ICEA certification as a childbirth educator and DONA certification as a birth doula. My eventual goal is to become a direct-entry midwife.

Hello!

Hi everyone! I'm excited to have found this forum. I am 20 years old, and have not had any children, nor am I pregnant. I feel really lucky to have found this way of thinking before I got myself subjected to the system. I'm here because I love to learn, and I want to be prepared for the future. I started getting interested in birth 2 years ago when I got engaged. My 3 sisters all had OB managed type births, and it didn't sound fun. I was scared to death about the thought of trying to have children. So I looked it up. After 2 years of studying, I am now confident that when I decide to get pregnant I can do so normally and endure through labor. I am also studying to be a doula (I'm attending my first birth in January!).
As a side note, I'm interested in why the forum is called "normal birth" rather than "natural birth." I offfended one of my sisters saying I believed women were created to give birth "normally." My reasoning was that if it wasn't "normal," the worst it could be is "different." If I used "natural," that would imply if it weren't "natural," it would be "fake," or "artificial."
Anyways, I'm just happy to be here.
Kelsey
Introduction

Hello to everyone. I am new to this forum, and I thought I'd provide a little background:

I'm 27 years old, a stay-at-home mother to my two-year-old. I became involved in birth activism/advocacy after my traumatic birth experience with my daughter and the subsequent PTSD. Before her birth I was a full-on mainstream Mom but over these past two years I am grateful that I have not only learned so much about normal birth but also that I'm able to provide this valuable information to women who may not have had the opportunity to hear it otherwise. I am a member of the Chicago Homebirth Meetup (the largest Homebirth Meetup in the nation!) as well as the Chicago chapter of ICAN. Looking forward to meeting everyone!

~Sara

New Forum Software: We Want Your Feedback

As returning users have already noticed, Lamaze International has upgraded to new software for our Normal Birth Forum.

The new software is more flexible and has additional features that did not exist in our old forum. Previously registered users should know that we are working to restore user registration for individuals who are not members of Lamaze International (Lamaze members may log in using their regular member log in credentials.)

In the meantime, we welcome your feedback. What do you you like or dislike about the new Normal Birth Forum? Are there features you like on other organization's Forum sites that you would like to see here? Have you encountered any difficulty with the new program? (If you require troubleshooting assistance, please let us know what operating system and browser software you are using.)

Thanks for your patience as we make the transition. We're looking forward to your comments.

Sincerely,
Amy Romano

Baby boy!

Just to let you know we had a healthy baby boy yesterday, June 2nd. He was born at home, after 3 hours of labor, into the hands of his father.
He weighs 7lbs11oz, a whole pound bigger than his sibblings did, and measured 21 1/4". He was 5 days 'late'. His sibblings all came early, so the wait was new for me :-) It is probably why he was a little bigger, though giving birth felt the same.
His name will probably be Thomas Jude.
maria.
talks

Greetings again!
I hope I am not asking too many questions :-)
I was just wondering if there are tapes or transcripts available of your talks?
I am particularly interested in
Economic Disincentives for Mother-Friendly Care (co-developed with Susan Hodges)
I would gladly pay any fee involved. I am just a regular mom and don't have connections to organize a conference and invite you :-(
Thank you,
maria. By: maria
