Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers are at the core of Lamaze International and there are many ways to be involved with promoting safe and healthy birth. Volunteer involvement will allow you to gain different forms of experience and can take as little or as much time as you have available. Your expertise, experience and leadership skills are an invaluable resource!
Board of Directors Nominations for 2012-2013
Lamaze International is seeking qualified, active, visionary leaders among our Lamaze members to run for elected office. Lamaze is your organization and your involvement is critical! If you feel passionate about the Lamaze International mission to promote natural, safe and healthy birth, and are willing to volunteer your expertise and leadership skills, we strongly encourage you to consider running for the Board of Directors, or nominating one of your colleagues to run. Interested candidates will need to complete the Board Candidate Questionnaire and submit a CV/resume by April 30, 2012.
If you have any questions, please contact the Lamaze Administrative Office at director@lamaze.org or at 800-368-4404.
Giving Birth with Confidence Blog Seeks Contributors and Invites Engagement
The Giving Birth with Confidence blog provides a platform for “real women” to share stories, find answers and support each other. Content contributed by and for moms includes a variety of topics related to pregnancy, birth and parenting, and includes prominent participation from Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educators.
- Participate in the conversation: Giving Birth with Confidence depends on you – the community of LCCE educators – sharing knowledge. Visit the discussion forums, post comments, refer pregnant or new moms who may be interested in blogging, and consider becoming a guest blogger yourself. E-mail cterreri@lamaze.org for more information.
- Create a private discussion group for your class:In addition to public discussion groups, site members can also create a private discussion group that can only be viewed by invited members. Visit the FAQ page www.givingbirthwithconfidence.org for more information on how to create a private discussion group.
- Provide additional resources for your students:Encourage students to visit Giving Birth with Confidence regularly or sign up for free e-mail subscription to blog posts, which are full of valuable information. You can also use posts to include with “homework” or class exercises.
- Create a profile page: Sign up for Giving Birth with Confidence (it’s easy and free!) at www.givingbirthwithconfidence.org. Create a username and password and be sure to complete your profile page. You can upload a profile picture, add your bio, website, Twitter and Facebook accounts and any other relevant information you would like to promote.
Social Media Networkers
Do you Twitter, Facebook or blog? Consider sharing some of your online time with Lamaze. We’re looking for help with regular updates to our Facebook Fan Page, increased tweets on our Twitter account and blog writers for our upcoming new consumer blog. Contact Tim Hendrickson at >thendrickson@lamaze.org to help out!
Translators Needed
Lamaze also is searching for volunteers to translate our care practice papers and earn alternate credit toward recertification! The English versions were updated in 2009 and we are now seeking to update the Spanish, Russian, Mandarin, Czech and Romanian versions. The Lamaze care practice papers are invaluable resources for expectant parents around the world—we would love to be able to offer them in many more languages. If you are fluent in a different language and would like to volunteer to translate, contact Jeanne Mendelson.
Contribute to Genesis or eNews
Lamaze is seeking content contributors for the bi-weekly issues of Genesis, now with more targeted content, delivered in a new, more timely and user-friendly format. By sending Genesis out more frequently, we hope to improve member communication and value. Six issues per year will be “summary” issues that will reach both member and non-member audiences to update all Lamaze supporters on the latest research, educational opportunities, discussions in the news and general activities. Writing for Genesis is your chance to reach thousands of colleagues in the birth community with your tips and success stories!
Certification Exam Item Writing
LCCE Educators interested in contributing to the exam writing process are welcome to submit items to the Certification Council for review. Educators who submit 10 questions can earn up to 10 alternate credit hours toward their recertification upon approval of submissions. Download
